downsiid1 CRUNK!!! Music DownsiiDWhat you know about “GhettO RocK”?

DownsiiD from Killeen, Texas are the originators of this nouveaux genre. A high energy hybrid of Rock, Hip Hop, and Soul is produced by five very unique individuals. The combination of body shaking drumbeats, brain rattling bass lines, razor sharp scratches, and skin piercing guitar riffs overlaid with a powerful, soulful voice with a touch of battle rhyme lyrics is the perfect formula for DownsiiD.

DownsiiDs’ 2001 self released album, “This the World” contained the trademark single “simple man” and 2002′s “Karma: The Rebirth” produced “I”. They can be heard both nationwide and locally on Clear Channel Radio stations. “I” made it’s nationwide mark by topping local charts across the nation and being featured in ‘R&R” magazine. The follow up CD, “The Evolution of GhettO RocK”, features the songs “Ballin’ “, “Blue” and “Grab The Cash” and is set for an early 2006 release.

Currently DownsiiD is tearing up venues all over Texas and surrounding states. Headlining such historical venues as The Backroom in Austin and Trees in Dallas, and giving such unchained, riot inciting performances, DownsiiD has earned the respect of the Lone Star State. No one leaves a show without becoming a Downsiider, a true DownsiiD fan.

dirtyheads2 Dirty HeadsThe Dirty Heads highly anticipated first full-length album Any Port in the Storm was released September 23rd, 2008 on EMG through Fontana, a division of Universal Music Group Distribution.

This debut features 14 tracks that are reminiscent of the upbeat, sun-soaked Southern California party energy consisting of a blend of hip-hop and classic reggae. The first single is the optimistic anthem “Stand Tall.”

Dirty Heads members Dustin Bushnell, Jared Watson, Jon Olazabel, and Matt Ochoa connected with sought-after producers Steve Fox and Stan Frazier (Sugar Ray / Ashlee Simpson) to polish their material and further develop their style. The band also recruited mixing engineer Mario Caldato Jr., best known for his work with the Beastie Boys, to add the finishing touches and create just the right blend.

Any Port in the Storm also features one of the final recordings of the late music icon Billy Preston. Frequently referred to as “The Fifth Beatle,” Preston played on three tracks, including “Stand Tall,” “Driftin’” and “Chelsea.” Other special guests on the album include drummer Josh Freese (A Perfect Circle, Sting, The Vandals), and veteran session percussionist Alex Acuna, whose A-list musician resume includes Peter Gabriel, Johnny Clegg, and Jackson Browne.

Recently, the band’s music has been attracting attention throughout the world of entertainment. Their songs have been featured in the movie and soundtrack for Surf’s Up (Sony 2007) and the television drama Shark staring James Woods (CBS 2007). Actor Matthew McConaughey selected the band’s music to be in his upcoming film, Surfer Dude. In addition, the Dirty Heads can be heard in Tony Hawk’s Downhill Jam video game (Activision 2007) and several other music compilations and surf/skate videos. The Dirty Heads have also been included in campaigns for Etnies Jeans and Vestal Watches.

Dirty Heads vocalist Jared Watson sums up their fun, uncomplicated style, “We want to be positive and entertain,” he says. “We just want to make you feel good.”

And who can’t dig that?

K.O.D.K.O.D. is a hot artist right out of Georgia, who now resides in South Dakota.

He has started a wave of hip-hop through out the community and accomplished the feat of making the first hip hop video here in Rapid City. The fresh style of his music is his own just as Nelly’s style was, with that country type grammar that made him unique. He was inspired by Run-DMC at the age of 12, and soon began writing his own lyrics and performing. After high school, he then took a break when he went to college in South Dakota.

In 2002, after achieving underground success, He released Hear My Cry. Hot 93.1 was eager to air the song and see the locals response. Instantly the song was a hit! Against major artist, it reached the #1 spot on the 9@9 and held that spot 3 weeks. Due to the high response from the listeners, K.O.D. released his single in 2003. He sold over 600 copies citywide in a town of 60,000+!! This then opened the demand for an album.

Soon after, he released Rolle’ To The Fullest which also hit #1. The demand for K.O.D. music became the new hype in Rapid City. This open many doors, which included performances for semi-pro football teams, opening for acts such as Universal Records artist Afroman and others. Hear My Cry also made it on Billboards D.M.A. top 200 singles chart for the week of April 2004. The song was listed at #12 out of 200 singles.

In early 2005, K.O.D. released the album Rolle’ To The Fullest. In the summer of 2005, he had a part in an independent film called Salem Park 3:15. Rolle’ To The Fullest was on the sound track for the film. He didn’t release an album in 2006, but stayed busy doing shows and opening up for acts such as @-Live crew, Tone-Loc, Bone Thugs, and tech-9. To date K.O.D. is working on his 2nd album to be independently released. He is also working on his clothing line called Jus Ghetto.

pitbull2 CRUNK!!! Featured Artist PitbullToo Latin for hip-hop/ too hip-hop for Latins/ how did that happen?/ No, no he can’t come to this award show he speaks too much Spanish/ Oh, he can’t come to this awards show, he speaks too much English/ Y’all need to make up your mind -Pitbull
Much like his canine namesake, it’s not very safe to corner Cuban-American MC Pitbull. Since debuting in 2002 alongside Lil Jon and the Eastside Boyz’s Kings of Crunk album to last year’s star turn with Trick Daddy and Rick Ross on DJ Khaled’s ode to Miami Dade County, “Born N Raised,” Pitbull defies labels. As charismatic as any rapper in hip-hop, Pitbull effortlessly moves between crunk and gritty rap anthems, truly earning his nickname Mr. 305.

His new album, BOATLIFT, brings together Pit’s ever expansive world on one album; brimming with sexy Caribbean influences and sounds like Merengue, Bachata, and Afro-Cuban, yet still brooding and hard enough for the other side of Miami.

BOATLIFT is the best of Pitbull’s worlds, melding the sounds of his lyrically dexterous debut, M.I.A.M.I., with the mature sounds and world influences of the critically acclaimed, El MARIEL.

“The BOATLIFT means so much to me, it means bringing together two very different works or trying to, because every album is a new step.” Pitbull explains. “And with the BOATLIFT and being that my family was involved in the boatlift [from Cuba to Miami] and being that it’s sort of me taking everyone on my own ride, it’s my own Boatlift. I feel like everything has to do with a Boatlift, think about how everyone came to this country. There’s so many ways you can go spin and turn it. But bottom line, it’s just my way of taking you on a ride with me in my world and trying to make you understand it.”
